NY Gov't: We Know What's Best - No Matter What You Think

New York City. Best known for its plays and musicals. Known as the "it" place for windshield washers. Known for multi-million dollar 1-bedroom apartments (I hear it's about location).

More recently, New York City has become known as the city that cares. It is cheaper for the government to make your decisions for you. First, it chose to tell you what kind of ingredients you could eat by banning the evil, dreaded, and child-raping trans fat. Then, they went after the ever-lurking, sneaky, unregulated and deadly fat through the use of a "fat tax".

Many progressives hailed these events as comparable to laws banning murder. Many lives were saved that would have been ended too soon. If we couldn't do it for the obese, then it had to be done for the kids. Kids are innocent and unaware that the fries and chips and sugary snacks they are eating were leading to their early demise.

With these life-saving humane laws on the books, New York City then sought those slothful, couch-potato, video-game playing inconsiderate video game playing movie watching anti-globalists. New York City is now seeking to curtail those selfish slobs who attend movie theaters or rent videos and video games. We don't need "those" kind of people.

Open page two to read on about NYC's latest life-saving efforts...

The Great Void Known As Creigh Deeds

Their beloved source of ideas, 404'd.
The leftosphere, with the help of their gutless cheerleaders in the dead-tree media, are going absolutely apoplectic over what they claim is a "controversial" thesis paper written by the Republican gubernatorial candidate, Bob McDonnell.

Fair enough. It's not like it's all that unusual for the left to blow relatively minor papers into international incidents.

So I figured I'd hop on over to my scholarly archives and see if I could find out a bit about what Mr. Deeds (and, by the same wide brush that McDonnell's detractors are using, every left-leaning individual in Virginia) believe.

Lo and behold, it would seem that my efforts are fruitless. Despite holding a doctorate in law from the distinguished Wake Forest University, I can't find a single paper that Creigh Deeds (or R. Creigh Deeds, or Robert C. Deeds) has written.

Nothing in JSTOR.

Zilch in Digital Dissertations. Nada in Dissertation Abstracts. (Both of which returned Bob McDonnell's "secretive" paper.) Shoot, there's not even so much as a word in legal-minded publications like Legal Collection, which one would expect to see Mr. Deeds in, he being an accomplished Doctor of Law.

I could've sworn that a dissertation was required to obtain a doctorate, and yet, there's not a trace in these digital databases that the good Mr. Deeds has even written one. If the Deeds people are so bent out of shape by a Republican theorizing about Republican ideas, shouldn't their candidate have a whole host of original ideas on his own?

At least with Bob McDonnell, we know where he stands.

*If any of you Deedsians know of anything of substance that he has written on the topics that affect us today, please feel free to contact me. I'd be absolutely delighted to hear whatever words of wisdom he has to share.

Update: A kind WaPo reader informs us that:

... you have the wrong degree.

Mr. Deeds received a Juris Doctor (JD) from Wake Forest. A JD is a professional degree, and like an MD does not require or usually include a thesis.

A "Doctor of Law" or an LLD is usually given in the United States as an honorary degree.

A true legal doctorate, requiring a theis, would is called a JSD (Doctor of Juridical Sicence) in the United States. Mr. Deeds does not have one of these.

That makes sense. And now, if I may respond:

Does that mean that Bob McDonnell--who has two masters degrees (in addition to the "humble" J.D. and a track record of running large executive organizations)--is more qualified for the job than Deeds is?

Somehow, I doubt this will impact the Post's negative outlook of our candidate.

IMAO: Top 10 Reasons ObamaCare is Like Ted Kennedy

Frank J. does it again:

Democrats are considering naming the health care bill after Ted Kennedy, which is actually kind of appropriate if you think about it.

TOP TEN WAYS THE HEALTH CARE BILL IS LIKE TED KENNEDY

10. It’s bloated beyond belief.

9. Liberals love it while completely ignoring the harm it will do to people.

8. While you’re dying, it will do nothing.

7. It has no concept of morality in its actions.

6. It will only make empty gestures of helping others while primarily being concerned about preserving its own power.

Click on through to IMAO for the last 5, which are rumored to be the funniest.

Futurevision: British Prisoners Fed Better than Hospital Patients

I'm sure that our own government's plans would never ever EVER go this horrifically wrong:

Patients in Health Service hospitals are far more likely to go hungry than criminals in jail, scientists warned yesterday. They say frail and elderly patients do not get the help they need with meals, and nobody checks whether they get enough to eat. Despite years of Government promises to tackle poor hospital nutrition, food still arrives cold, and patients often miss out because meal times clash with tests and operations.

Update: Greetings, fellow AoSHQ'ers!

And upon further thought, let me add that this symptom of the British condition couldn't possibly have anything to do with the Left's constant obsession with the human rights of felons, which in my observation, stretches above and beyond their obsession with just about anything else.

No, clearly, we conservatives are still in the wrong on that issue, because it is we who are evil and reprehensible.

Of course, I'm always happy to hear your theories, so be sure to post 'em down south if you have 'em!

The Joys and Privilege of Socialized Medicine

Here are two videos that exquisitely show the plight of people who have to suffer under their socialized government's cruel hand. Prepare to hear from first hand accounts of what it is like to live under government run health care system.

Then, realize that this is the ultimate goal of Obama and his socialist lackeys.

Seriously? Why would anyone want that?

And, I hear people crying about their insurance carriers. Hey, if you don't like them, then drop them. It's not like there are other carriers to choose from. You think the price is too high? Then don't pay it. No one is forcing you to. Well, not yet anyway.

If you really like the Canadian way of living, then please move there. Leave my way of life alone. If you like England or Cuba's way of caring for its people, then let me pay for your plane ticket there. Leave at your earliest convenience.

Leave my privatized health care system alone.

Judges: Your Christian Views Are Dangerous

A judge in New Hampshire has "sentenced" a 10 year-old girl to FORCED public school indoctrination because:

The decision from Marital Master Michael Garner reasoned that the girl's "vigorous defense of her religious beliefs to [her] counselor suggests strongly that she has not had the opportunity to seriously consider any other point of view."

And, it gets worse from there.

The dispute arose as part of a modification of a parenting plan for the girl. The parents divorced in 1999 when she was a newborn, and the mother has homeschooled her daughter since first grade with texts that meet all state standards.

In addition to homeschooling, the girl attends supplemental public school classes and has also been involved in a variety of extra-curricular sports activities, the ADF reported.

But during the process of negotiating the terms of the plan, a guardian ad litem appointed to participate concluded the girl "appeared to reflect her mother's rigidity on questions of faith" and that the girl's interests "would be best served by exposure to a public school setting" and "different points of view at a time when she must begin to critically evaluate multiple systems of belief ... in order to select, as a young adult, which of those systems will best suit her own needs."

According to court documents, the guardian ad litem earlier had told the mother, "If I want her in public school, she'll be in public school."

This is not the first time. This is a continuation of a process that focuses the might of the judicial branch against the Christian belief system.

We first heard of the cases in Europe and we didn't think it would happen here. Then it happened in pro-illegals-lovin' California. Granted this case was ultimately overturned, but the damage had been done. And, the attacks did not stop there. Reports came out of Mississippi. And now, the some of the latest abuses of religious and Constitutional freedoms come from New Hampshire.

And the leftist Anti-American indoctrination continues from within the schools.

To Nobody's Surprise: Wolves More Valuable Than Humans to D.C.

Your tax dollars at work, my friends. Who knew that the Wolf Party had more clout in Washington than anyone else?

In response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Congress passed the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Act. This law set the intrinsic value of a human life at $250,000. Higher sums were paid to compensate families for the lost incomes of a love one killed in the attacks. But the value of a human life itself, without regard to that person’s ability to earn money, was set at $250,000.

At $400,000 a wolf and rising, government is valuing the intrinsic value of each wolf more than its values the intrinsic value of human life.

Happy Friday, Y'all!

Man, I haven't done one of these in forever.

In an attempt to make your weekend as uplifting as possible, here's a timely reminder that no matter what you're looking for, the government can do it.

(Thanks to Oregon Guy. If you ask me, the only thing this video is missing is a whole pile of dancing bureaucrats. Seeing how wealthy bureaucrats are becoming, how can they not dance?)

Gerry Connolly's Quality Congressional Leadership

Remember that last-minute town hall meeting here in Fairfax County that we were discussing here a few days ago?

Apparently, even though Gerry Connolly gave us a whole 24 hours notice about the town hall meeting he was hosting for our district, he couldn't be bothered to show up at the time he scheduled it.

The result?

Chaos and confusion, naturally! Via a first-hand report over at BVBL:

The time was changed. Gerry showed up at 11:30. Lots of people didn’t know and showed up around 3:30 but there wasn’t anything going on because Gerry changed the time at the last minute.

Thanks to all of you Democratic voters here in Fairfax County for giving us such an attentive representative.

Leftist Wisdom: Arabs Paying the Price of the Holocaust

Desmond Tutu reminds us once again that liberalism is a mental disorder:

The Nobel Prize laureate spoke to Haaretz in Jerusalem as the organization The Elders concluded its tour of Israel and the West Bank. He said the West was consumed with guilt and regret toward Israel because of the Holocaust, "as it should be."

"But who pays the penance? The penance is being paid by the Arabs, by the Palestinians. I once met a German ambassador who said Germany is guilty of two wrongs. One was what they did to the Jews. And now the suffering of the Palestinians."

Seeing how concerned Desmond is with Israel's affairs, one can only imagine that South Africa, the home country he credits himself with saving, is a veritable paradise.

TIME Tackles the Toughest Stories

Welcome, fellow Michelle Malkin fans! Long time, no see! Hopefully, most of you still remember what this site is all about. If not, I highly recommend browsing around for a bit. And, of course, we all would be very grateful if you'd subscribe to our feed and pay us a visit as new stories break over here!

Rather than discuss the fact that Michelle Obama is spending more money on assistants than any First Lady in history, it would appear that everybody's favorite communist rag has found what could quite possibly be the story of the century:

Michelle Obama Has.... Hair, Glorious Hair! Hair which can be styled... in different styles!!!!

The lions of TIME would have definitely made Imelda Marcos proud.

I'm guessing that the message Yannis Behrakis is trying to send with this picture is "the IDF likes to shoot women:"

An Israeli security officer stands guard near the Israeli controversial barrier as Palestinian women wait to cross Qalandiya checkpoint outside the West Bank city of Ramallah August 28, 2009. Hundreds of Palestinians lined up as they tried to reach the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem on the first Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Muslims around the world abstain from eating, drinking and sexual relations from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar.
