Nope, there doesn't seem to be anything to
"Homies" in Preston.
It seems that, in addition to our recent troubles in Brussels and Paris x2 (h/t Larwyn), we're now seeing some rioting in England (h/t FreeRepublic), after some youths (unidentified in the article) threw stones at cars parked outside of a mosque. This was enough of a spark for the 200 people inside to come out and "defend" those under attack, apparently so vehemently that ambulances were turned back due to the police feeling that it was too dangerous to let them enter the scene.
A mother-of-three, 33, from Clarendon Street, said: "It's getting ridiculous and for the past two nights there's been fighting."
Could this have been kicked off by a racial attack? Perhaps.
Could it also have been instigated by muslims hostile to whichever mosque this was? Sure.
It also could've been an act of senseless prank and violence by a bunch of yobs, who are not exactly uncommon to England.
The timing of this latest riot is definitely curious, in light of our previous two episodes. These riots appear totally coordinated on the surface, based on the fact that they occur in European cities, at roughly the same time. Is there some group testing Europe's resolve in responding to large-scale rioting? Is this a test to see how the world will react?
Whatever the case, I'm sure we won't be hearing any details about this case unless and until it's determined that the stone-throwing yobs are without a doubt lilly-white. If the perps are any other race, this story will be buried faster than John Mark Karr's criminal prosecution.
Update 3-Oct-2006 10:18 EST: Yeah, I think I'm ready to call it on this story. There isn't really anything unusual about violence in a violent area. So, to adjust the title,
Nope, there doesn't seem to be anything to...
...reports that Ramadan is the month of Rioting.
At least, not in Preston, England.
"Curses, foiled again!"
Update 11:50 EST: (Hello again, LGF readers!) France may still be another story, so I'm still 2 out of 3.
