Stop whatever you're doing and read this post, written by the (quite eloquent) mother of a solider in the IDF. I'll post the intro here, but the article is long, and is very worthy of a full read:

There are images that break your heart. The news is filled with them today and they can easily sway you to think that all of the situation in the Middle East comes down to a picture. How horrible, truly tragic, unacceptable and wrong it is to have a child die.

It is so horrible, sometimes you forget to look behind the picture. It's so simple, really. A child should be able to go to school and be safe. I last spoke to my son days ago and in the background I could hear the sound of explosions. Through the phone, dozens of kilometers away from me, and quite a distance from Elie, I could hear another unit firing. Can you imagine how loud that would be up close?

Yesterday, mortars were fired FROM the school In Jebalya. This was a direct and intentional attack on Israel, on Israel's soldiers and population. Mortars are explosions. They are loud. You can't pretend you didn't hear them.

...

If you read that article from top to bottom and still blame Israel for what's going on in Gaza, you just might need a brain transplant.

*Hi,

you don't need a brain transplant. you should also look at casualties in Palestinian side. till now, 600 of them have been killed or injured comparing to 7 Israelis. if you think you will see the great power imbalance in there. I do not agree with any kind of war and I do not verify the actions from both side. what my point is, you should not be diverted a way from the facts by Media which unfortunately is in full hands of Israelis and Americans (their strategic allies).

Best,

*Araz,

How many of the civilians in Gaza would still be alive today if Hamas did not hide behind them. For example, by launching rockets from within apartment buildings?

What in the heck do you THINK is going to happen if Israel strikes back at military targets that are "coincidentally" placed right next to civilian buildings? Should Israel just stand down and allow Hamas to do whatever it wishes, just because Hamas chooses to endanger the entire civilian population in the Gaza Strip?

I think not.

By the way, I follow the wire service feeds faithfully on a daily basis (as it's the entire point of this blog), and I can assure you in the strongest sense that the press (specifically, the photographers sending photo reports in on the wires) are 100% on Gaza's side.

Regards,
Brian

*Excellent article, Brian!

The Palestinians intentionally put their children in danger. Walid Shoebat explained one reason - intercession.

While Christians believe Jesus intercedes for salvation, Palestinian muslimes are taught that martyrs intercede for up to 70 friends and family. So, by selfishly sacrificing their children, they think they are assuring themselves a place in paradise.

And the bonus is, they get to blame the Jews for the deaths!
