Man Shoots Self At Gun Range

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Authorities say a man fatally shot himself after renting a gun at a Delray Beach shooting range.

Employees found the man, who has not been identified, dead of a single gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon at Delray Shooting Center.

As a public safety announcement, I thought I'd use this story to share some important gun safety tips, courtesy of http://www.imao.us (or click image below):

Spend $10 to Save $5, Part 2. Coming To Your Home Soon

A few days ago, Brian told you a story about how Duke energy was planning on raising its rates by over $5 Million dollars. As Brian noted, some claimed that this would save people money. (of course, that was after already paying an extra $125 a month)

Recall recently that we heard that California wanted to look in to the feasibility of installing remotely controlled thermostats in to private Californian's homes. It would seem that England is now the first on the block with just that idea.

Every house in the country will have a smart energy meter installed over the next decade in a bid to save consumers at least £100 million a year, the Government has promised.

Smart meters are intelligent electronic electricity and gas readers. They will send accurate information to the energy companies about a household's consumption, scrapping the need for someone to come and check the meter.

So. This plan will save them 100 million a year. WOW. And, what, is it free? Laugh out loud you say. Ok, how much is this going to cost them?

Socialists on Parade Invade

You thought, ok. making the wearing of seat belts a law is a good thing. It protects those too stupid to protect themselves. You may have even told yourself that it was to help lower the cost of insurance.

Then, you allowed your government to outlaw the use of your hands to hold a cell-phone while driving. You told yourself, these stupid people can't talk and drive at the same time. Serves the public good to prevent accidents by people talking on cell phones. And, amazingly enough you were ok with the hands-free phone technology. You said it made no difference and prevented many a accident.

Now, not content to leave you alone now, bent upon all the power you have given them over these last few decades, representatives are now going after more things you do in a car. For the public good.

New Jersey has already taken cell phones and text messaging out of the hands of drivers, and now one legislator hopes to do the same with in-car navigation systems.

Democratic State Assemblyman L. Harvey Smith has introduced a bill that would “prohibit the manual operation of a global positioning system (GPS) device or similar navigation device by the operator of a moving motor vehicle”. If passed, the ban would be the first of its kind in the nation.

Are you ok with this too? When are you going to finally open your eyes and see that this is an inch by inch encroachment into your personal freedoms. Each new law like these takes away more from personal choice and responsibility.

What will be enough for you to say, "Enough!"? Will it be when they make hands-free radio mandatory? Or when they bring back the auto-locking seatbelts? Or how about when they outlaw fast food drive-thrus? It would save the planet and prevents billions road accidents.

Or, how about just outlawing fast food restaurants altogether? You are too stupid to feed yourself and your kids correctly based on government established guidelines. It is for the public good!!

These are not isolated examples. Check HERE and HERE.

Or, will you be finally upset enough to take a stand for your own freedoms when they take your car away? How about when they take your truck or SUV away from you? Wouldn't it be better for the environment and the safety of everyone on the road if everyone was in mass-transit? (Aren't all our cities moving that direction?)

Obamessiah Taking Credit For Iranian Revolution

Obama's approach to Iran, including his assertion that the unrest there represents a debate among Iranians unrelated to the United States, is an acknowledgment that a U.S. president's words have a limited ability to alter foreign events in real time and could do more harm than good. But privately Obama advisers are crediting his Cairo speech for inspiring the protesters, especially the young ones, who are now posing the most direct challenge to the republic's Islamic authority in its 30-year history.

Celebrating Freedom

While Iranian Protesters shed their blood for just a taste of freedom, Iranian Diplomats will celebrate our freedom with a barbecue, courtesy of President Barack Hussein Obama.

From Weasel Zippers:

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The United States said Monday its invitations were still standing for Iranian diplomats to attend July 4 celebrations at US embassies despite the crackdown on opposition supporters.

How's that for rubbing the noses of Iranian Freedom Fighters into the bloodstained pavement of their Revolution?

Meet The Mullahs

Iran is announcing the U.S. is no longer a part of the Ahmadinejad family circle of trust.

Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying:

But the fact is, Barack, with the knowledge you've been given, you are now on the inside of what I like to call... "the Ahmadinejad family circle of trust." I keep nothing from you, you keep nothing from me... and round and round we go.

Our New Intellectual Elite: Spend $10 to Save $5

Duke Energy, the major power supplier for much of North Carolina, has announced its intention to raise electrical costs for its customers by over $500 million, due to increasingly likely micromanagement of the Green Sector (formerly known as our "energy production capability.") But hey, there's good news:—Customers stand to save a fortune once the rates go up:

“[W]e estimate that by participating in appropriate energy conservation programs, the average North Carolina residential customer (using 1,000 kWh a month) can save about $5 per month…”

500 million dollars divided by 4 million customers equals $125 that North Carolinians will be expected to add on to their already expensive power bills, per year.

In the midst of a massive economic downturn.

Fortunately for North Carolinians everywhere, Duke Energy (or rather, the Federal Department of Pointless Micro-Management) has outlined ways that customers can use to save $60 per year. Which amounts to less than half of the price hike (which, I will add again, is on top of already expensive bills).

"Going green" continues to be one of the biggest scams in the history of our nation. How much better must we feel to know that our government is the one that's scamming us?

Thanks to Steven.

Faux-Astroturfing

Crowd Inflation (photo via Berlingske)

The German magazine Berlingske has discovered that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's supporters in Iran have been fudging the coverage of the pro-Mahmoud rallies in Tehran. Given the fact that the Iranian government is also furiously suppressing all dissent, I guess this isn't all that surprising. It's a good reminder that Iran sucks at teh Photoshop, at least.

Of course, the fact that the Iranian government feels compelled to digitally insert fake people into a photograph could be a sure-fire sign that they're losing control of their population. Dictatorships that can't even astroturf a protest with real people are barely worthy of the name.

Update: Yeah, I am pretty bloody slow. What can I say? I'm still trying to wake from my blogging slumber over here...

Are You A Terrorist?

Which of the following is an example of low-level terrorism?

— Attacking the Pentagon

— IEDs

— Hate crimes against racial groups

— Protests

My answer was "hate crimes against racial groups." I was wrong. The correct answer is "Protests."

According to a Department of Defense employees' exam, Americans who participate in protests are committing acts of terrorism.

Welcome to Obama's America.
