The Ghost of Snapped Shot

Or, welcome to my low-maintenance heck.

Selective Suffering

Oh, the humanity:—The Israeli Defence Forces raided another terrorist base peace-loving household in the West Bank, no doubt in pursuit of terrorists who were hiding within. What do our dear wire photographers think of the IDF's work?

Very dramatic, no? I'd even go so far as to call it quite Qana-esque, but is this picture giving us an honest assessment of what's going on here? Tune in beyond the fold to see for yourself!Let's check out some other shots of this scene on the wires. For starters, here is another angle of this same shot, taken by one of the many photographers that tend to gravitate to dramatic scenery like this:

The next picture that follows ought to give you an idea of what's really going on here. For some strange reason, I don't expect that you will see it in any newspapers of note tomorrow morning:

my hand is one of the first to go up when it's asked if there are any cynics in the room, but at the risk of sounding naive, are you suggesting that the photo with the woman being carried out was staged (go easy on me)? if that's you're point, you are probably right. these people are far from ignorant. why wouldn't they use the weapon of propaganda that has been used against them?
#2 Brian C. Ledbetter 21-Jul-2007
Boyle,

I'm not suggesting that the photo is "staged" outright—but the information being presented about the photograph in question is somewhat misleading. I think the third picture in the series explains quite succinctly what's really going on in this particular situation, and find it amusing that the Associated Press still can't find itself to call this "looting" what it is.

(If you are aware of any situations in which propaganda has been used against the Palestinian people, I'm all ears. Generally, the coverage out of the Middle East is preferential towards the "plight" of the Palestinians on at least a 10:1 ratio.)

Hope this helps explain what I'm trying to say!

Regards,
Brian

Oh yeah, their having a real party there in the occupied territories. Perhaps you can get some more shots of happy arabs raiding demolished homes. Then we all can forget that these people are being cleansed from the area with our government's support. Try to catch more of them smiling, would ya?

Muhammed,

Considering the fact that (a) Israel has reduced it's "occupied" territorial boundaries significantly over the past two years, and (b) they just released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, I think you're claim of anyone being "cleansed" from the area is pretty amusing.

But hey, why let little things like "facts" get in the way of vapid self-aggrandizing?

Chin up, good sir. All is not bollocks.

Brian
