I'm gonna have to dig up a proper photograph to mark the occasion, but NRO is reporting that Fidel Castro is indeed, dead as a doornail.
Okay, it seems that Otto J. Reich, the U.S. Envoy to the "School of the Americas," has heard rumors circulating around Havana that Ol' Dysfunctional Colon might finally be gone now. According to Otto, "The Cuban government has been summoning to Havana representatives of the major international media to negotiate the best seats, camera angles, and interviews with the despotâs political survivors [Ed.: I take it you don't mean "Cuban Citizens" here, do ya Otto?], and to inform them of the ground rules for coverage of the state funeral."
Of course, Otto seems incredulous to think that, "The Cubans actually believe â or pretend â that the death of a tyrant deserves the same attention as that of the worldâs great men of peace," but he seems to be forgetting that most of the press would be extremely happy to paint Fidel the Terrible in such light. Their history of covering the murderous regime in Cuba hasn't exactly been stellar over the past few decades.
It's still early, but I'm always ready to cheer that FIDEL IS DEAD. Hopefully this time, it will be true! I'll save the champagne for photographic evidence, of course. Until then, it's good to see that it's "Shady Pines" for Castro!
