When in doubt

... blame the U.S.! I mean, all of that infighting and civil strife can't possibly be due to your society's steady embrace of death, could it?

Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh makes a speech in Gaza City December 19, 2006. Haniyeh accused the U.S. on Tuesday of spearheading efforts to bring down his democratically-elected Hamas government. REUTERS/Suhai Salem (GAZA STRIP)

(As a bonus, did anyone notice how Suhai Salem--which I think is a typo, it probably should be Suhaib Salem-- carried Ismael's water for him? Find the answer following the break!)How did Suhaib Salem and REUTERS carry Ismael's water?

...efforts to bring down his democratically-elected Hamas government.

The REUTERS caption is implying that Haniyeh's Hamas party is the democratically-elected government of the Palestinian territories, neglecting to notice that (a) Hamas is a terrorist entity, and (b) Fatah--yet another terrorist group--is vying for power.

If Suhaib was merely reporting what Haniyeh said, wouldn't it have been more appropriate to say, "...accused the U.S. of spearheading efforts to bring down his government, which is accused by the U.S. of being a terrorist entity." Without the "democratically-elected" canard, and with a qualifier listing the United States' side of the story, doesn't that sound far more ... I don't know... Impartial?

REUTERS: The Tool of Choice. For terrorists.
