The Ghost of Snapped Shot

Or, welcome to my low-maintenance heck.

The Palestinian National Anthem

Average schoolchildren.

When I saw this series run across the wires, I thought to myself, "How cute of UNRWA to spend so much time teaching Palestinian children about their country. That's exactly what the United Nations should be spending billions of dollars doing!"

And then I noticed that these kids are singing the Palestinian national anthem -- Wait, hold on a second... "Palestine," a country that hasn't existed in any meaningful form in all of history, has its own national anthem?

Why yes, yes it does:

Palestinian children from UNRWA school carry flags as they salute and sing the national anthem to commemorate Nakba near the port-city of Sidon in south Lebanon May 14, 2011. Palestinians will mark "Nakba" (Catastrophe) on May 15 to commemorate the expulsion or fleeing of some 700, 000 Palestinians from their homes in the war that led to the founding of Israel in 1948.
