Looks like the Democratic party, the supposed friend of the elderly and the downtrodden, has decided to start tossing old people out the window:
President Barack Obama told CBS News's Scott Pelley that Social Security benefit checks are in jeopardy if Congress doesn't raise the debt limit by August 2.
"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue, because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," he said.
In doing so, this idiot has proven exactly what we conservatives have always claimed about Social Security and Medicare: It is nothing more than a wealth-distribution tool that will be wielded like a weapon over the voters' heads any time the Federal government feels like its income is threatened.
Will it work? Who knows.
I hope that Americans are smart enough to see that there are plenty of other places that can be temporarily halted in the Federal budget while Congress figures out how to roll back their decades of $ubstance abu$e.
Then again, considering the state of our culture today, maybe my optimism is misplaced.

Update: Many many many thanks to Doug Powers (and Michelle Malkin) for the link! It's been a long time since I've seen y'all around here! :)
Doug closes by saying what we're all thinking: Hopefully Social Security recipients are familiar with chess, because they're now officially pawns in the president's debt ceiling game.
