The Ghost of Snapped Shot

Or, welcome to my low-maintenance heck.

What's The Point Of Government?

Thanks to Teach over at Pirate's Cove, we learn another valuable Civics lesson about how our glorious government works.

They only work for their own benefit and work to increase their own pockets and power.  Even when they brag about making their administration transparent, open, and honest, or when they enact legislation to force pay-as-you-go bills, it means nothing at all.  What does it mean to pass one bill, when you can pass another to erase it? As Teach points out:

‘Memba this from 11 days ago?

President Barack Obama is hailing pay-as-you-go budget
legislation he signed Friday night as one in a series of crucial steps needed to snap Washington out of a destructive pattern of overspending.

“Now, Congress will have to pay for what it spends, just like
everybody else,” Obama said in his radio and Internet address released Saturday morning. “After a decade of profligacy, the American people are tired of politicians who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to fiscal responsibility. It’s easy to get up in front of the cameras and rant against exploding deficits. What’s hard is actually getting deficits under control. But that’s what we must do.”

So, how’s that working out?

It took less than two weeks for lawmakers to vote to break new rules requiring that new spending be offset elsewhere in the budget, waiving the requirement just minutes before a strong bipartisan majority passed a $15 billion job-creation bill in the Senate on Wednesday.

“I’m just not sure how you vote for this bill when it violates that rule, which you just voted for two weeks ago,” said Sen. Judd Gregg, New Hampshire Republican. “It just seems to be a bit of inconsistency that’s hard even for a political institution to justify.”

Senators voted 62-34 to waive the spending rules,..

Like I said, when you can violate your own provisions, rules, bills, or legislations without remorse or repurcussion, then who are you beholden to?  Who do you fear?  Who do you truly represent?

Our government has grown too big for its britches.

As William says, (always with the eye-patch Willy??!?)

Is it any wonder that that the latest CBS/NY Times poll has Congresses latest approval rating at 15%, and Rasmussen has 71% disapproving of Congress...

Um.  Nope.  No wonder at all.  They must go.  Let's pray they can't do much damage till then.
