"Brothers from another mother"
Pres Obama celebrated Ramadan today with an official statement. In it, he identifies with Islam and states America has always been a Muslim nation.
On behalf of the American people, Michelle and I want to extend our best wishes to Muslims in America and around the world. Ramadan Kareem.
Ramadan is a time when Muslims around the world reflect upon the wisdom and guidance that comes with faith, and the responsibility that human beings have to one another, and to God. This is a time when families gather, friends host iftars, and meals are shared. But Ramadan is also a time of intense devotion and reflection – a time when Muslims fast during the day and pray during the night; when Muslims provide support to others to advance opportunity and prosperity for people everywhere. For all of us must remember that the world we want to build – and the changes that we want to make – must begin in our own hearts, and our own communities.
Are these the hopey-changey changes that we were looking for when "we" voted for him?
Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality. And here in the United States, Ramadan is a reminder that Islam has always been part of America and that American Muslims have made extraordinary contributions to our country.
And finishes with this:
I look forward to hosting an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan here at the White House later this week, and wish you a blessed month.
May God’s peace be upon you.
Ok. First, as a student of Islam, I am sure the President is fully aware that Islam's god is not the Christian GOD. They worship a god called Allah. These are not the same. And I find it strange that Obama would insult the Christians, and Muslims, by citing the Christian GOD in a praise-letter written directly and specifically to Muslim.
Second, I seriously doubt that Muslims were here during our hundreds of years before our Federation. Or even the first hundred years following Federation. I don't know. I may be wrong, and I will admit it if I am. But I don't recall muslim mosques being built and then subsequently raided by the British troops during our Revolutionary War.
And what were the "extraordinary contributions" that Muslims contributed to our country? I do honor the fight of Muslims who fought in our armed forces and died for this country. But, I doubt that is what he was referring to.
If anyone can enlighten me on country-wide contributions that Muslims have made in our past, please do so down in yonder Comments section.
Obama also writes in his letter this nicety:
These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam's role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.
Where do I begin with this? Beheadings. Sharia. Rape. Moletation. Open sexual harassment. Global intolerance. Spiteful humiliation of women and children. Global vicious hatred of non-Muslims, especially Jews.
Yep. We have a lot in common during Ramadan.
[UPDATE] Hey, since we have so much in common and we are all about tolerance, what say you allow the Jews and Christians to build their houses of worship right next to the Dome on the Rock? Hmm? Ok. Thanks. Knew you would understand.
