Christians upset again. Violence feared.
*UPDATE* at the bottom.
A piece of artwork in Loveland, Colorado has drawn severe, caustic, violent, anti-athiest rage from local Christians. Fear is growing over massive worldwide protests. Government leaders are calling for calm and understanding of cultural differences. Some people are fearing a return of the mass-killings that occurred during their last expression of anger (Dark Ages).
With tensions rising to fever-pitch, citizens are warned to not provoke or antagonize local Chrristian groups out of fear of reprisals. Gen Petraeus stated briefly that because of this incident he fears for the safety of his troops. This is his third such statement since somebody left a rake turned wrongside up on his barrack's front lawn.
If you feel comfortable knowing the cause of this recent turmoil and outbreak of violence, you are welcome to click the link for page 2. However, we hear at SnappedShot, do warn you of the potential harm it may cause. This is definitely NSFW because you never know who might see your computer's monitor. And then, before you know it, there's violence in the work-place.
But, continue on if you must. We only provide the information as a service and an obligation to alert our readers. Since you have decided to continue on with the story, I must assume then that you have agreed to our terms and you are in a safe, secure, and Christian-free zone.
Very well. Here, as reported to us, is the incident that has led to the possible riotous behaviour of the local Christians in Colorado.
An exhibit at a Colorado art gallery is stirring up outrage from critics who say it depicts Jesus Christ in a sexual act.
Enrique Chagoya's "The Misadventures of the Romantic Cannibals," created in 2003, is a multipanel piece in which "cultural and religious icons are presented with humor and placed in contradictory, unexpected and sometimes controversial contexts," the artist's publisher, Shark's Ink, said on its website.
The lithograph, on display since Sept. 11 at the tax-funded Loveland Museum Gallery in Loveland, Colo., is part of an 82-print exhibit by 10 artists who have worked with Colorado printer Bud Shark. It includes several images of Jesus, including one in which he appears to be receiving oral sex from a man as the word "orgasm" appears beside Jesus’ head.
"This is a taxpayer-supported, public museum and it’s family-friendly," Donna Rice, another member of the city council, told the Denver Post. "This is not something the community can be proud of."
The more extreme members of their sect reacted more viceferously.
Critics said the piece is appallingly disrespectful and offensive.
"It is visual profanity," Linda King, an art gallery owner, told the Loveland Reporter-Herald. "It disgraces the God of all creation."
The more ignorant and unenlightened members of our global community couldn't help but not see any connection with the flagrant, blasphemic depiction of Jesus having a BJ and the rise in Christian violence worldwide.
Don Surber of the Daily Mail says he wondered if Chagoya and his supporters would feel the same way if someone depicted Muhammad in the same way.
"This has been done so many times before that it is a cliche. In the artworld, such work belongs next to the Velvet Elvis and the dogs playing poker," Surber wrote in his blog. "If this ‘artist’ had any courage, he’d show Muhammad instead of Jesus. That’s cutting edge. That’s breaking new ground. That’s dangerous. That’s truly being willing to sacrifice for the sake of art."
Meanwhile, the local FBI and Sheriff's office are providing security for the artist and the museum in case the Christians seek to cause further harm, mayhem or attempt physical violence against the artists involved.
Stay tuned for more. We will try and keep you informed as the news and police reports come in.
Just try and stay calm. Things will settle down eventually.
[Update] Might I add that this guy is a completely horrible artist. But then he is a liberal, a liberal professor, a liberal arts professor.
[UPDATE] Welp, it would seem that our fears have come true. Christians from all across America merged on to the streets of Loveland, Colorado and massacred the whole town. They then focused their rage upon the arTIST, stuffed him on a pole and arranged his body in a position reminescent of Jesus pose he struck while praying to GOD, his father, asking that the sins of the world pass him by.
Ok, well, actually, it was one lady from Montana with a crowbar who had finally had enough and destroyed the Jesus BJ artwork.
Ma'am, I applaud you for standing up foryour savior. However, I am wondering how this is a felony charge? How is destroying art a felony? If someone torn down my happy frog flag from on the front of my house, would that be a felony? If they threw paint on my newly-painted house, would that be a felony??
