Reset!
I understand that things are getting a little bit tired here at Snapped Shot central. As such, I'm working on some ideas that'll revitalize things around here, and hopefully get things a bit more interesting for you to read.
I mentioned it on Twitter previously, but I'm really inspired by the new Gawker site, and the direction they're going in. Content really is king, and original content moreso. Without it, why should we even bother blogging in the first place?
Now, I don't think we need to go so far as to redesign the entire site again, since I don't think the theme here is too bad, but I do think the frontpage is going to have to shrink. Highlighting a single most-important story of the day, and providing links to the rest of the site's content in the sidebar is an admirable pursuit.
Of course, this means that the single most highlighted story of the day should actually be intriguing... but getting to that point requires us to take a different approach. I need to pick up my game and actually start contributing content around here again, since I own the joint. We also need to work on bringing things back around to the raison d'être that launched this blog in the first place.
Photojournalism.
It's a topic we rarely discuss anymore... and it shouldn't be. This is a blog about photojournalism firstly, and stuff that we find interesting secondly.
So I hear the two or three of you that've e-mailed wondering what's going wrong around here, and understand exactly what you're saying. Be ready to see some changes around here (for instance, the brand new mobile site), and please don't hesitate to tell us what you think!
If Rooster were my alter-ego, he never would've butchered "you're" like that. ;)
Kevin never hesitates to tell you what he believes Rooster thinks. And I believe Rooster thinks you should flip the AP the bird and go back to discrediting their stringer photos when appropriate. It's fair use when the images themselves are put into question.
Rooster agrees with me, as far as we know. ;)
I like your writing (i.e., your content), so I'm glad you're going to give us more of it.
Aww shucks - thanks, Bookworm! I'm glad that there's at least someone out there that can put up with my daily bouts of lunacy. :)
Rooster never hesitates to tell you what he thinks. And I gotta say I really like the 1 article front page look that you have going on! The Gawker site has an outstanding layout. Simplifies the entire site and seemingly makes it far easier to navigate. But I guess I shouldn't praise these changes since I'm you're "alter-ego" and not an actual real person...
