PETA Alert: Animal Abuse in Palestine?

One wonders what the indomitable nonpareils of Norfolk would think of this one:

Palestinian boys ride dyed donkeys at Marah Land zoo in Gaza City October 8, 2009. Two white donkeys dyed with black stripes delighted Palestinian kids at a small Gaza zoo on Friday who had never seen a zebra in the flesh. A genuine zebra would have been too expensive to bring into Israel-blockaded Gaza via the smuggling tunnels under the border with Egypt, said zoo owner Mohammed Bargouthi. REUTERS/Mohammed Salem (GAZA SOCIETY ENVIRONMENT ANIMALS)

Is a dyed donkey deserving of divergent discourse? Or is a painted pony as pleased as a pickle at his precious new apparel?

(On a completely unrelated note, it would seem that somebody has finally had enough coffee to activate his trusty thesaurus.)

Pretty In Pink

It would appear that Hamas is going for the softer look:

Masked Palestinian Hamas members are seen during a demonstration to show solidarity with Sudan, in the Bureij refugee camp, central Gaza Strip, Friday, March 6, 2009. The International Criminal Court's decision to pursue a sitting head of state on war crimes charges puts others around the world on notice, but it's also raising questions about which leaders are being targeted. African and Arab nations say they will support al-Bashir, fearing the warrant issued against him Wednesday will bring even more conflict in Darfur. (AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

Eulogizing Etiquette... and Copyright?

It concerns me to see pictures like this in the aftermath of the death of Reuters videographer Fadel Shana. It's one thing to pay respects to a comrade, that's obviously understandable.

It's the presence of the ginormous propaganda posters in the background that is a bit unsettling, at least to me.

Was this man a journalist, holding every side of a given issue to equal critique, aiming to bring the truth to discussion of modern events?

Or was he an activist, interested in promoting and supporting a very specific side of the conflict? A propagandist, if you will, bringing one very biased point of view to his coverage of news events on the ground?

Because, when I see propaganda posters like those posted in the picture above, I immediately think of the latter. Without question.

But hey, what are knee-jerk reactionaries for if their knees don't jerk on occasion?

To be charitable, I'll throw this one into "Human Shields" for now.

(Oh yeah, one wonders how the copyright on the propaganda posters would work, considering the photo was published on the Reuters wire. Who is "borrowing" from whom here, anyway?)

Gaza: Still Ragin' Against Denmark

As I predicted on Friday, the flames of hatred against Denmark are nowhere near spent at this point. From this morning, we see the peace-loving children jihadist killers of the Palestinian Popular Resistance Committees, raging against Denmark as hard as they can:

Palestinian militants from the Popular Resistance Committees burn a Danish flag during a protest rally in Gaza City, Monday, Feb. 18, 2008. Dozens of militants of the Popular Resistance Committees protested Monday against Danish newspapers reprinting a cartoon lampooning the Prophet Muhammad. (AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

If this keeps up, Friday is going to be the best day of raaaage (and puppies), ever. Until then, at least we have plenty of the PRC "funneh" beyond the fold.

A Litany of Endless Demands

Hamas once again manipulates the entire population of the Gaza Strip into yet another photogenic mass rally "demanding" yet again that Israel ignore all of the crimes Hamas has committed against it and end the (rather gentle) embargo (more, more) against the terrorist entity.

The key has a very specific meaning, by the way. Also note that today's Friday, the Islamic day of prayer, so it's not like Hamas had to work very hard to get these loyal citizens out of their already-quite-mob-inciting mosques.

Update: Is this yet another anti-Annapolis protest? Some of the captions coming in indicate that this is the case, making this roughly Day 4 of Annapolis rage. Continue reading »

Kids and Not-So-Toy Guns?

The Augean Stables is suggesting that yesterday's toy gun-toting child might actually have been toting a real gun. I'll pass this one on to the experts and see what they say—I'm not convinced either way. What do you think? Feel free to share your expertise with us down in the comments.

Is this gun more real than it appears? (AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

Thanks to Hard Rain for pointing this out!

Incidentally, I am leaning towards the gun being a toy. Do real guns have big divots for screws in the side like this? By my guesstimate, this is a point where the plastic components of the "gun" are screwed together:

Sorry guys, but this looks like a toy to me.

Update: Augean Stables has removed their original blog entry, so I can only assume that we were on the mark here. Like I said in the comments over there, it's not like we don't have enough examples of Palestinian children using real guns to go around...

Worldwide Anti-Annapolis Protests: Day 1

It would seem that the entire ummah is on fire in protest against the farce of a conference in Annapolis. Finally, I am in agreement with the ummah on something (though I'd imagine for far different reasons). The highlight of today's protests? Perhaps the coolest portrait of Condoleeza Rice ever published, even outshining my previous fave:

REUTERS/Muhammad Hamed (JORDAN)

I'll be rounding up the other highlights from around the world following the fold. Stay tuned for more!

Update: Someone has definitely been very busy spreading the propaganda about the Annapolis conference. Notice how all of these protests suggest that somehow, the United States and Israel are either conspiring to revoke the "right" of return, or how we're conspiring to seize Al-Aqsa. Very interesting coincidences, no?

(Regarding the "right" of return:—Keep in mind that with respect to any "peace" conference assembled, Palestinians demand an independent state of their own on one hand, yet they demand that Palestinian "refugees" maintain the "right" to return to Israel on the other. Sound confusing? Yeah, it might be—until you take a look at which map they are working from... It's all about "conquest," people. Nothing more, nothing less.)

UPDATE: According to the latest captions coming in, a man has been killed by Fatah security forces in Hebron, after being shot point-blank in the chest. Reports are that 15 other protesters have also been injured in the area—no specifics or details on them yet. Continue reading »

Children Against Annapolis

It would seem that even the ever-peaceful youths of the Palestinian terror-tories are lining up against Annapolis. Who would've expected such a position, from such a peaceful specimen as this:

A young Palestinian Hamas supporter holds a toy gun as he and others gather during a protest against the upcoming United States sponsored Annapolis meeting, in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 Israeli, Palestinian, Arab and world leaders are set to meet in Annapolis, Maryland next week at a U.S. hosted peace conference. The arabic text reads 'The is no God but God, and Muhammed is his prophet. ' (AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

Far be it from me to state the obvious, but there is absolutely zero chance of success at Annapolis, considering that one side of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict has been raised for generations with an irrational hatred that can never be negotiated away.

"Clashes" at Arafat Memorial

Update: This picture is quite a fitting highlight.

"Pheer our moderation."

Orig: Female Palestinian Fatah supporters gather at a rally marking the third anniversary of the death of the late leader Yasser Arafat in Gaza City, Monday. Nov. 12, 2007. Hamas security forces opened fire at the mass rally commemorating the death of the late Palestinian leader, violently dispersing the largest public display of support for the rival Fatah movement since Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip in June. Five people were killed and at least 31 were wounded, medical officials and Fatah said.(AP Photo/Khalil Hamra)

It would appear that Hamas has attacked a gathering of Fatah supporters who had the audacity to organise a memorial ceremony in the former group's stronghold. Notice the editorial content provided in the caption, by the way. "Gunfire" killed people, "clashes" caused the violence. It's almost as if the press is trying to go out of their collective way to absolve Hamas of any guilt in this conflict, in contrast to just about every other event that directly blames the IDF for any potential casualties.

You know, the usual charges like, "Israeli bullets killed," and "Israeli bulldozers demolished."

Gunfire killed at least five people on Monday at a Fatah memorial rally for Yasser Arafat that drew hundreds of thousands of supporters of the defeated faction in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, a medic said. I'll be tracking photos of the rally, and the resulting chaos, following the break. Please note that some of the photographs are somewhat graphic, so viewer discretion is advised. Continue reading »

Celebrating the Victory of Thugs

Once again, our illustrious press shows up to document, and ultimately to celebrate, a press conference arranged by Hamas. Yeah, we should all be used to it by now, right? But anyway, this one is a real doozie: Check out their victorious spoils of victory, yo:

Masked Palestinian militants from Hamas stand behind military equipment they said was captured in recent clashes with Israeli troops, during a press conference in the Jebaliya Refugee Camp, northern Gaza Strip, Friday, Oct. 26, 2007. In violence Friday, Israeli forces killed three Palestinian militants in separate incidents in the Gaza Strip, including one airstrike in Gaza City.(AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

I'm sure the IDF will truly be unable to function without that cot. Tremble in fear, o ye Zionists! Continue reading »

Israeli Dog Bites Thuggish Man

I think this bunch of pro-Israeli protesters have finally found a way to get the press to take them seriously:

Israeli protesters hold toy guns and wear Kaffiyehs, traditional Muslim headdress, during a demonstration against the release of Palestinian prisoners, in Jerusalem September 25, 2007. Israel will release 87 Palestinian prisoners on Monday, a Prisons Authority spokesman said, a move aimed at bolstering President Mahmoud Abbas ahead of a U.S.-sponsored conference on Palestinian statehood. REUTERS/Ammar Awad (JERUSALEM)

Word has it that their competitors are somewhat unhappy with this new situation:

"Yes, we decry this abuse of our distinguished status by the Zionist pigs. Oh, and DEATH TO AMERICA!"

Feel free to peruse my Thug Conferences category for more examples of this phenomenon. And while you're doing so, try to imagine the press taking this group as seriously as they take these terrorist thugs.

Happy Ramadan

This e-card will bring smiles to the face of any devout family member, and is brought to you by the World Ummah Islamic Jihadi Press, formerly known as Reuters.

"My mom will be SO proud of me!"

Another Peaceful Friday in the Gaza Strip

This is starting to become a weekly occurrence. You've gotta love that compassionate bunch of thugs in Hamas, don'tcha?

Palestinian members of the Hamas Executive Force detain a Fatah supporter during clashes at a protest following Muslim prayers in Gaza City, Friday, Aug. 31, 2007. A protest by Fatah supporters against Hamas rule turned violent Friday when Hamas men began forcefully dispersing the crowd, firing in the air and beating demonstrators and reporters. (AP Photo/Hatem Moussa)

Of course, it's not like Fatah's being all that reasonable, either:

Fatah party supporters tear down billbords during a rally following Friday noon prayers in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. More than 10,000 Palestinians defied Hamas on Friday to pray outside in the biggest protest in the Gaza Strip since the radical Islamist movement captured control of the territory two months ago.(AFP/Mahmud Hams)

"Rally?" That's rather quaint, Mahmud, because it looks more like a riot to me.

In all seriousness, why does anyone expect the Palestinians will for a moment act in peace towards Israel? They can't even act peacefully towards each other. Continue reading »

Admirable Restraint

Overnight, two Palestinian children were reported as being killed by "an explosion" in the northern region of the Hamas-occupied Gaza Strip. Generally, when events like this occur, the first reaction reported by the press is that the evil Zionists were responsible, with quotes from "sources on the ground" confirming the dastardly Zionist machinations to an all-to-willing press corps.

That standard storyline is what I expected to hear as soon as I heard about this event, so it goes without saying that I am very surprised to see that the press is reporting things factually for a change:

Even though we get the traditional crocodile tears, I'm definitely pleased at this new honesty, and hope that it continues to find its way into more of the coverage coming from the region!
