Their Parents Must Be So Proud

A school in Lebanon, funded by Hezbullah, displays some of that vaunted Islamic culture:

Reading, wRiting, and Rage against the Jews?

Yeah, you keep telling me that it's the Hebrew nation that is the obstacle to peace.

Extreme Irony

It would appear that the Hezbollah-supporting students of Lebanon are sorely lacking a supreme sense of irony as well. Notice what the text on their banners says, and then compare it to how their cowardly hero behaves—particularly with respect to "guns:"

Lebanese University students and Hezbollah supporters, hold banners that read in Arabic: 'Your delegation, Saniora, doesn't represent us' and 'The fate of nations is decided with guns' as they protest against the Annapolis conference, in the southern city of Sidon, Lebanon Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007. Lebanon moved closer to a deal for army chief Gen. Michel Suleiman to become the next president in the first signs of a breakthrough between its divided factions, after the Annapolis conference eased tensions between their main backers, the United States and Syria. Worldwide Anti-Annapolis Protests: Day 1

It would seem that the entire ummah is on fire in protest against the farce of a conference in Annapolis. Finally, I am in agreement with the ummah on something (though I'd imagine for far different reasons). The highlight of today's protests? Perhaps the coolest portrait of Condoleeza Rice ever published, even outshining my previous fave:

Jordanian protesters hold pictures of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a protest in Amman November 27, 2007, against the Middle East peace conference in Annapolis, Maryland. U.S. President George W. Bush opens a high-stakes Israeli-Palestinian peace conference on Tuesday, trying to achieve in his final 14 months in office a goal that has eluded U.S. leaders for decades. REUTERS/Muhammad Hamed (JORDAN)

I'll be rounding up the other highlights from around the world following the fold. Stay tuned for more!

Update: Someone has definitely been very busy spreading the propaganda about the Annapolis conference. Notice how all of these protests suggest that somehow, the United States and Israel are either conspiring to revoke the "right" of return, or how we're conspiring to seize Al-Aqsa. Very interesting coincidences, no?

(Regarding the "right" of return:—Keep in mind that with respect to any "peace" conference assembled, Palestinians demand an independent state of their own on one hand, yet they demand that Palestinian "refugees" maintain the "right" to return to Israel on the other. Sound confusing? Yeah, it might be—until you take a look at which map they are working from... It's all about "conquest," people. Nothing more, nothing less.)

UPDATE: According to the latest captions coming in, a man has been killed by Fatah security forces in Hebron, after being shot point-blank in the chest. Reports are that 15 other protesters have also been injured in the area—no specifics or details on them yet. Continue reading »

Compare And Contrast

Earlier this year, there were worldwide (and totally orchestrated) protests against Israel's "destruction" of the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam—which does not appear once in the Qu'ran—even though Israeli excavations were being performed to preserve archaeological evidence before official Palestinian construction destroyed it. The press, in its endless exuberance for anything anti-Western, presented these protests as fact, not once attempting to understand the Israeli side of the issue.

Palestinian children hold placards during a demonstration against the Israeli government's construction works outside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound of Jerusalem in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp, southern Lebanon Friday, Feb. 9, 2007. Palestinian leaders have harshly condemned the work but Israel says the project is needed to replace a centuries-old earthen ramp that partially collapsed in a snowstorm three years ago. It has promised the work would cause no harm to the Islamic holy site; but those assurances have not calmed Muslim passions over the project. (AP Photo/Mohammed Zaatari)

Fast-forward to yesterday, where Israeli citizens were protesting their own government's plan to give the Temple Mount—which incidentally is the single-most holiest site in Judaism, mentioned in the Torah and Talmud hundreds of times—are tarred and smeared as "right-wing" extremists.

Right-wing Israelis demonstrate against any Israeli territorial concession outside Jerusalem's Saban Forum where US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert held talks 04 November 2007. On her eighth visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories this year, pressing diplomatic efforts to revive full-blown peace talks after seven years of deadlock, Rice was in the occupied West Bank for top-level talks.(AFP/Menahem Kahana)

There's that good old-fashioned fairness and balance for you: "Curse those dastardly right-wingers."

Full coverage of yesterday's Radical Right Wing Israeli Protest can be found beyond the fold.

Update: Wow, here are some genuine words of "wisdom" from Ehud "The Dunce" Olmert:

Israeli PM Olmert slams right-wing extremists over 'flood of hatred'

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert launched a vitriolic attack on extreme right-wingers on Monday, amid a campaign to release a political assassin and incitement against talks with the Palestinians.

Olmert, who on Sunday said he may be able to conclude a peace deal with the Palestinians by the end of next year, vowed that such behaviour would not dissuade him from persevering with negotiations.

"We are prepared to make compromises because security is based on peace and peace requires painful compromises," he said in a speech to a managers' conference in Israel's commercial capital Tel Aviv.

Okay, here's a "flood of hatred" for you, Eddy Boy:—if you're so set against the Jewish people that you do not wish to hear what the Jewish people have to say about the future of Israel—the ancestral home of said Jewish people—then why in the devil do you allow yourself to remain as President? If genuine Judaism disgusts you so much, why not just pack up and move over to your best buddy's little tinpot regime?

After all, if your "counterparts" at the peace conference deny your right to exist, as the savages have done on every occasion they've been given, why do you suppose that "peace" somehow depends on giving them more land, you traitorous coward?!

Is Israel really so self-destructive now that they allow scum like this to remain in power?

Soccer Dad writes to remind me that Olmert used to be one of we dreaded "right-wingers", back before political expediency necessitated the abandonment of his core beliefs. How times change!

I dream of the day in which spinelessness will no longer be a requirement for public office in the West.

Update: The Elder has more thoughts on extremism.

On the Infinite Zionist Conspiracy

Ugh. This is exactly the type of "propaganda victory" I said the Israeli government needed to avoid a few days ago:

Lebanese Hassan Akil, 45, who the Israeli media claim was a former Hezbollah guerrilla and Hezbollah official, displays his pictures published on front pages, as he sits in his house in the southern village of Jubbain, Lebanon Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007. Akil insisted he was never a fighter for the militant group. On Monday, Israel returned Akil and the bodies of two Hezbollah guerrillas in exchange for the corpse of an Israeli man who drowned at sea in early 2005. (AP Photo/Mohammed Zaatari)

Of course, neither Mohammed Zaatari nor the Associated Press have presented any evidence on either side, to confirm or deny whether this man is telling the truth. They merely report his Hezbullah propaganda verbatim, without a moment's thought.

How's that for in-depth journalism?

To the dopes in the Israeli government that cooked up this harebrained scheme: If you're going to release a Hezbullah fighter in hopes of getting back a citizen or soldier you care about, make sure it's the meanest, baddest, absolute most terrifying-looking thug that you can find. That way, the press can't pull crap like this atrocity on you later.

(Plus, if you release a total thug, you have two advantages: Namely that he is (a) most likely not the smartest one of the bunch, and (b), he'll be downright trivial to identify should you ever run into him again.)

Paging all clue-enabled Israelis: Please report to the Government immediately. They've been going it without you for far too long now. Continue reading »

Fifth Bombing in Lebanon: Averted!

The Syrians did not succeed in their fifth attempt to bomb Lebanon, thankfully.

An explosives expert checks a bomb placed in an empty can of baby milk powder [Ed.: I know, it's off-topic. If you're interested, there's more background here] about 500 meters (yards) away from the upmarket Rest House beach resort in the southern city of Tyre, Lebanon Wednesday, June 6, 2007. Military experts dismantled Wednesday a bomb that was placed near a popular public beach security officials said. (AP Photo/Mohammed Zaatari)

A Hotbed of Terror

... and while I'm on the topic, who do you suppose the residents of Ein el-Hilweh -- the terror base refugee camp which is currently protecting the Fatah al-Islam thugs -- are protesting?

Palestinians gesture during a protest in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp near the southern port city of Sidon, Lebanon Tuesday, May 22, 2007, against the Lebanese army siege and bombardment of the northern Nahr el-Bared Palestinian refugee camp. Artillery and machine gun fire echoed around the Nahr el-Bared refugee camp for a third straight day Tuesday, while angry Palestinians burned car tires in two other camps in an ominous sign that the trouble could spread across Lebanon. (AP Photo/Mohammed Zaatari)

Yep, you guessed it. It's obviously the Lebanese Army's fault that the locals are protecting the terrorists. Nice to see that Mohammed Zaatari managed to make it past the Lebanese road block, in order to fully capture and share the terrorist's point of view...

Oh, I just noticed, keep in mind that this "artillery and machine gun fire" is echoing through the refugee camp... after the cease-fire "went into" effect. Did I call that right, or what?

:-)

UPDATE: Yep, just as I suspected: Mohammed Zaatari has embedded himself with the enemy. For the first time in this current conflict, we get to see the TERRORIST'S point-of-view, thanks to our SEDITIOUS Associated Press:

I'll be tracking Mohammed's updates beyond the fold, and will eagerly await more sedition from our photographic corps.

Updated:

I am tracking Day 2 of this "cease-fire" in a new thread. Be sure to check out the latest series of Lebanese "atrocities" against these "innocent" civilians terror-supporters.

God's Little Propagandists

Whenever they're in a pinch, the Party of God never fails to ratchet up God's Propaganda. The United ... make that Useless Nations does nothing to stop it. How else will they live up to their name and reputation, after all?

I will say, what's really disgusting is the obviously-photoshopped scowl on Ehud Olmert's face. I mean, it's not like there are any pictures showing him in full scowl in real life or anything, right? Continue reading »

Selective Outrage Syndrome, Day OF RAGE!

A clear case of projection, if you ask me...
Rumour has it that there's a massive DAY OF ANGER!! (now where have I seen this before?) planned to protest the Israeli "destruction" of the al-Aqsa mosque. I haven't seen any photos of it yet, but considering that today is Friday, the Muslim holy day—and traditionally the day of the largest organized worldwide protests—I expect we'll be seeing quite a bit of action on the wires shortly.

Plenty of "anger" and "rage" are evident in the photographs, following the break. I ask you: Aside from "anger" and "rage," what else is there in the Muslim world?

Update: From what I can tell, there are two separate efforts underway. The primary is a large, "peaceful" protest, with plenty of flag-waving, propaganda posters, and other traditional elements of jihadi misinformation. The secondary seems to be an effort to goad the Israeli police into a firefight using "stone throwers" and other violent elements.

We shall see which side gets the greater coverage...

Previously on Snapped Shot: Selective Outrage Syndrome, Selective Outrage Syndrome, Day 2

Update: Here's the background on why all of this inflamed "protest" is genuinely fake. Thanks to LGF commenter BabbaZee for the link!

Update: In a rather interesting twist, it seems that this is a Palestinian day of RAGE, considering we haven't seen any action on the wires from Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, or any of the other usual hot spots. I'll keep an eye on the wires, of course, but I find it interesting that nothing's come across yet. Continue reading »

Hezbullah's Blatant Manipulation of the Press

Okay, so for weeks we've heard that Hezbullah will be out in the streets en force today, to protest the "pro-Western" Lebanese government and otherwise make life miserable for those opposed to Syria's puppet reign.

Now that photographs are pouring in, we get to see shots like this:

A Lebanese Hezbollah supporter sits on a street light as he waves a Lebanese flag during a demonstration to force the resignation of Western-backed Prime Minister Fuad Saniora, in Beirut, Lebanon, Friday Dec. 1, 2006. Hundreds of thousands of protesters from Hezbollah and its pro-Syrian opposition allies descended on downtown Beirut on Friday in a peaceful but noisy protest to force the resignation of Western-backed Prime Minister Fuad Saniora, who was holed up in his office along with several ministers ringed by hundreds of police and combat troops. (AP Photo/Hussein Malla)

Compare this to previous Hezbullah rallies, and see if you can make out the difference:

Flags, in order: Hezbullah, Amal movement (aligned with Hezbullah), Lebanon, Iran.

As has been noted fairly extensively, Hezbullah is very adept at manipulating the media. The fact that these protesters are so blatantly identifying themselves as "Lebanese"--rather than identifying themselves with the usual Hezbullah, Iranian, and Syrian flags--it is apparent to me that Hezbullah has sent out a little internal memo to its rally organizers, instructing them that it would be most prudent to wrap themselves in the Lebanese flag, to couch the argument in terms that they're somehow "reclaiming" the Lebanese government for themselves.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Hezbullah remains a group whose strings are pulled by the Opthamologist and Dr. Spongebob Nuclearpants. To consider them even remotely pro-Lebanese is farsical at best.

One other possibility here, just as an aside: According to the pro-Lebanese website From Beirut to the Beltway, the March 14th (thanks, Austin) group is planning massive demonstrations in Beirut today as well, to counter the Hezbullah invaders (and really, what better word is there for a group of the population that intends to turn control of one's nation over to a neighboring nation?). It's possible, but not likely, that we're actually looking at a group of March 14th'ers here. The reason I would suggest that this is Hezbullah-in-drag, though, is that most of the signs in the crowd are in Arabic, not generally the language employed by March 14.

As always, events in Lebanon are complex. Hopefully, my Lebanese compatriots can continue to update us with their side of what's going on over there. Stay safe, y'all!

For extensive Lebanon coverage: Jeha's Nail, From Beirut to the Beltway, Free Cedar.

I know I've been silent on the latest AP scandal--and I have a good reason for being so! Everyone else has covered it extensively already, and I don't really have anything insightful to add to their brilliant observations! What can I say? Kurt at Flopping Aces has done a spectacular job of tossing some egg at the AP's face -- or rather, pointing out the egg that the AP put there itself!

To make up for it, here's a "Flatima" wannabe sighting, following the break, from today's Hezbullah rally. Enjoy! (If you read Arabic, I'd be delighted to hear a translation for the sign behind our dear Flatima impersonator!)

UPDATE: I'm not the only person who noticed the conspicuous absence of that disgusting yellow flag. Howdy, GatewayPundit! It's good to be in esteemed company such as yours!

Update: Extensive coverage from Abu Kais at From Beirut to the Beltway, cross-posted at Michael Totten's website. Continue reading »

The Religion of Peace (and unbalanced reporting)

Thanks to Mohammed Zaatari for this latest laugh:

Palestinian youths [ed.: those dastardly "youths"] chant slogans during a protest in the Ein el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp, near the southern port city of Sidon, Lebanon, Friday, Nov. 10, 2006. Hundreds of supporters of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Asbat al-Ansar and other Islamic groups staged a demonstration following Friday prayers calling for attacks inside Israel to retaliate for the Gaza offensive. (AP Photo/Mohammed Zaatari)

Ok, so these "Islamic groups" (To Mohammed and all of the AP Editors that missed it, here's a little hint: According to the U.S. State Department, and the State of Israel, these are all called "Terrorist Entities.") are shouting "slogans" (i.e., "DEATH TO ISRAEL") and are calling for attacks on Israeli civilians.

Where are all of the silly liberals who pull out the "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" canard when you need them?

Al-Quds Day = "Blame Da Joooos" Day

My husband allows me to say only, "Death to America!"
Well, what do you know? Muslims worldwide are using "Al Quds" day as a perfect excuse to organize and blame Israel and the United States for all of their problems.

Who would've guessed it?

Photos to follow shortly. I need coffee like there's no tomorrow! :-)

(Update: Ok, the first batch of photos are in. I am absolutely on the edge of my seat waiting to see what gems we'll get from the Eternally Oppressed Palestinians... You'll find them catalogued here first, as usual!)

Hanging by a thread

Just like the UN.
Much like the UN's credibility, this cluster bomb seems to be hanging by a thread.

But, for starters, is it really likely that it landed there by itself? Or is it more likely that someone identified it as a dud and hung it from a tree?

And secondly, how's this for moral equivalence: Is there ANY distinction between Israel "raining down cluster bombs when a cease-fire was in sight," and Hezbullah "firing rockets at Haifa AFTER THE CEASE-FIRE WENT INTO EFFECT?"

Why is one REGULARLY condemned in bylines by the useful idiots dhimmis in Europe, and one REGULARLY ignored?

Jan Egeland, who according to the caption accompanying this picture, is shocked and appalled at Israel's "completely immoral" behavior. Jan presumably has no problem whatsoever with terrorists hiding behind civilians, as he has yet to utter a single word condemning that behavior. (Correction: As pointed out by reader "truth squad," Jan Egeland has in fact condemned that behavior:

But a day after criticizing Israel for "disproportionate" strikes against civilians, U.N. humanitarian chief Jan Egeland accused Hezbollah of "cowardly blending" among Lebanese civilians.

Thanks for pointing that out, TS. Sorry for the mistake on my part!)

Geospatial confusion

Hezbollah guerrillas carry the coffin of fellow Hezbollah fighters, draped in a Hezbollah flag, during the funeral procession for ten militants, in the southern village of Srifa, Lebanon, Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, who were killed in conflict with Israeli forces. A total of twenty-five villagers were buried in Srifa Friday, as the ground was opened for several mass funerals across south Lebanon, the Muslim holy day and fifth day of the cease-fire, after residents decided it was finally safe and hospital morgues had time to make sure all bodies could be claimed. (AP Photo/Mohammed Zaatari)

If anyone can figure out definitively whether this is Lebanon or San Francisco, be sure to let me know.

I just love the Hezbullah Lebanese flag pictured here, with its hammer and sickle reminiscent of the Whiney 1960s. I suspect that, because of the obvious Socialist imagery, you won't be seeing this picture in any papers anytime soon...
