WTH: IRS Increasing Supply Of Their 12-Gauge Assault Shotguns!!

Thanks to Drudge's minor linkage this morning, I found this story.  But, I feel this story should get national attention.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) intends to purchase sixty Remington Model 870 Police RAMAC #24587 12 gauge pump-action shotguns for the Criminal Investigation Division. The Remington parkerized shotguns, with fourteen inch barrel, modified choke, Wilson Combat Ghost Ring rear sight and XS4 Contour Bead front sight, Knoxx Reduced Recoil Adjustable Stock, and Speedfeed ribbed black forend, are designated as the only shotguns authorized for IRS duty based on compatibility with IRS existing shotgun inventory, certified armorer and combat training and protocol, maintenance, and parts.

What in the hell is the IRS doing with a Criminal Investigation unit that is equipped like a fully-armored SWAT team?

If this doesn't scare the dragon snot out of you, then you must be a liberal.

Seriously?  Combat trained IRS agents toting 12-gauge pump action assault shotguns?

In their defense, they are

In their defense, they are truly official federal officers, and as such need some protection from the bad guys.  They do raids for documents, and bad guys who are stealing and laundering dirty money may very well shoot at the agents coming to take away their freedom.

These 12 gage shotguns are very standard, though more compact then normal.  They are in no way even approching the level of armor of a SWAT team (silly Brian). 

I am not a liberal, and I am quite shocked they are only asking for 60 standard shotguns.

I love the timing, though :).

Sorry, Yishai, this was my post.  And, yeah, I know the IRS has a component where they have to go out in the field and so search and seizures.  But, this story brought to my mind the Untouchables story..... but instead of going against mobsters, they are going to be going after the regular folk.   And, no longer using model-T sidestep cars... but with tanks and body armor..... and shotguns!!

And yeah, Yiddish Steel, what is next?!?!  The EPA is going to have to have a mechanism for controlling how much CO2 you produce.  What if you decide to purchase one of those home-made beer stills AFTER you are allowed to have your allotment of CO2 emissions?  Are they going to come in and forcibly rip the stein from your hands?  You are killing your neighbors through illegal, harmful, and uncaring global-warming actions, right?

Oh wait, maybe those pocket protectors ARE their shotguns?  Have you seen that pocket gun that unfolds into a pretty good size weapon?
