+++ WHITE HOUSE ALREADY MAKING EXCUSES FOR DEEDS LOSS +++

You knew this was gonna happen, kids.

It's funny to see them miss it so wildly, though. Deeds is doing poorly because he can't seem to make up his mind on important issues in Virginia... Which he's purportedly running for the Governorship of. You know, issues like whether or not he's going to raise taxes, or whether or not he's going to raise taxes another way.

Which, of course, doesn't excite the traditional Democratic base in the least.

Sensing that victory in the race for Virginia governor is slipping away, Democrats at the national level are laying the groundwork to blame a loss in a key swing state on a weak candidate who ran a poor campaign that failed to fully embrace President Obama until days before the election.

...

Democratic strategists said that over the summer, Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) offered Deeds advice on winning a statewide election. Among other things, Kaine, who is also chairman of the Democratic National Committee, told Deeds that he should lay out more of his own vision and stop attacking Republican Robert F. McDonnell so ferociously. But Deeds did not embrace the advice, according to a national Democratic strategist.

I will say this:—There are still plenty of Zombie voters up here in Northern Virginia who would vote for a chicken salad if it had a (D) after its name, so this election is still far from over. But at least we can all take comfort in the fact that Creigh Deeds is being totally rejected by the rest of Virginia, which tends to think independently of endorsements made by a newspaper that doesn't even have a single editorial board member living on this side of the Potomac.

(Far be it from me to point out to the Post that this just might have something to do with how out of touch they are.)

Update: The inestimable Ed Morrissey has more thoughts on this occasion. I do think that Ed definitely seems to overstate Deeds' firmness on the positions of the day, considering the two videos linked above.
