I received this in the mail this past Saturday:

So when I read a report from Dan Riehl that ol' Gerry has slammed the door in his constituents' faces yet again, I laughed.
You see, this "open door" policy of Gerry's has been in place since almost day one, according to the Congressfrog's website—And from the looks of things since then, it seems to be a pretty loose policy.
If I didn't know any better, I'd almost say that he isn't reeeeally all that interested in hearing what you rabble-rousing taxpayers think...
Our favorite anti-Israeli congressman has penned a huffy letter to Virginia's governor demanding that we halt all plans to begin drilling offshore for oil.
His arguments contain the standard litany of liberal complaints—including our favorite whine about how profits from oil drilling won't start until "8 years away," which is really funny considering that we'd be in far better financial shape today if we had started on this process 8 years ago... but I digress.
What really cracks me up about this little letter is the fact that Moran and his amazing staff can't be bothered to make sure he's actually addressing the letter to the right person.
"Bob McDonald," huh?
If this is how Jim Moran & Co handles "serious" issues, just imagine how much attention these ignorant jokers are putting into actual legislation.
(Shudder.)

10 inches or so so far, 10 or so to go. I'm thanking the Lord we still have power and Internet, though.
Fingers shall remain crossed.

Thanks for the chuckle, Mike!
Found on FR, a little chain-mail piece that has me in stitches (not that I'm biased or anything):
God was missing for six days. On the seventh day, Michael, the archangel, found him - resting. He inquired, "Where have you been?" God smiled deeply and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds. "Look, Michael. Look what I've made."
Archangel Michael looked puzzled, and said, "What is it?"
"It's a planet" replied God, and I've put life on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a place to test Balance."
"Balance?" inquired Michael, "I'm confused."
God explained, pointing to different parts of Earth.
"For example, he said, northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, while southern Europe is going to be poor. Over here I've placed a continent of white people, and over there is a continent of black people. Balance in all things."
God continued pointing to different countries. "This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and covered in ice."
The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a land area and asked, "What's that one?"
"That's Virginia, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful mountains, ocean, rivers and streams, lakes, forests, hills, and plains. The people from Virginia are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent, and humorous, and they are going to travel the world. They will be extremely sociable, hardworking, high achieving, carriers of peace, and producers of good things."
Michael gasped in wonder and admiration, but then asked, "But what about balance, God? You said there would be balance..."
God smiled, "Right next to Virginia is Washington, DC. Wait till you see the idiots I put there."
Heh. Spoken like a true genius, Lord!
From the esteemed Anthony Bedell, Chairman of the Fairfax Republican Party:
Late tonight Steve Hunt won the Republican nomination in the 37th Senatorial District over Marianne Horinko and Will Nance. Each candidate ran a great race and should be proud of their individual efforts despite the results.
Now it is time to unite behind Steve and keep this seat Republican! The special election is set for Tuesday, January 12th. More details to follow on how you can help Steve win this important special election.
Four big "thank yous" to give out tonight:
# 1 The turnout was incredible (1903 total voters). To everyone who voted... your commitment and dedication to your candidate and to the Republican Party is inspiring. Thank you.
# 2 Thank you to Doug Boulter and his election team for running a smooth operation tonight. Charles Proctor, Bill Norton, Dottie O'Rourke, Rebecca Corner, Bill Norton, Keith Damon, Doris Bonnie Boyd, Virginia Olander, Ann Baise, Mychele Brickner, Gerrie Smith, Mary Beth Nethercutt, Arlene Storm, Kari Reed, Patrick Branch, Susan Valentine, Diane Moccio, Debbie Balancia, Chris Craig, Anna Lee, Mary Campbell, Amanda Nicoll and Peyton Hall..... all of you deserve a pat on the back!
# 3 Thank you to the Fairfax County Board of Elections and the staff who helped us with the machines and setting up the polling place. We sincerely appreciate it.
# 4 Last and but not least... thank you to Mike Thompson Jr for being an excellent Chairman of the 37th Legislative District. Well done.

Too Conservative has the detailed look at the turnout (I was there with the Hunt campaign from about 5:30 until about 6:45, and can confirm that things were as crowded as they usually are during a general election), and Greg from BVBL has some more observations worth reading.
With this primary election behind us, we can now look forward to an interesting Senate race in the 37th District this January. It'll be interesting to see what kind of campaign Democrat Dave Mardsen--whom, incidentally, I am hearing is a carpetbagger in this race--decides to run. Will he run a positive message outlining his specific plans for Virginia?
Or will he, as I suspect, immediately begin slinging mud at Steve Hunt?
You know what they always say: Many a men has tried their hand at slinging mud at Steve Hunt, but only two of them ever returned alive!
(Or something like that. ;) )
[Ed:-Yeah, this is Brian. Having cookie problems in Ye Olde Browser which are causing me to show up as Administrator. Whee!]
Also celebrating: Red NoVA, Renaissance Ruminations (kinda), Virginia Virtucon, Bearing Drift, Mason Conservative (kinda).
Update: Bwana has more, and it looks like Lowell Feld is hinting that Democrats are actually considering doing the mudslinging that I suspected they would (though I will say it is encouraging to see their party so depressed despite the fact that they currently controll 100% of the Federal Government).
I'm not sure where TC is getting his data from, but I'm very excited to hear it.
You know what they say: We could send 40 men of high stature to the Senate... or we could just send Steve Hunt!
Or something like that... ;)
I'll keep you posted once I hear more, of course.
Pictured: The man, in action!
If you're looking for a strong Constitutionally-minded candidate to replace Ken Cuccinelli in the Virginia Senate, and you're a Republican, and you live in the 37th Senate District, then I've got a story for you:
The primary election to determine our candidate for that office is tonight!
If you're eligible to vote, be sure to show up at Centreville High School in Clifton anywhere between 5:30 and 10 PM tonight, and help us bring a healthy dose of conservatism back to the Republican Party right here in grand old Virginia!
In fact, we have a saying around these parts that describes the whole situation to a "T":
When the Marines hit a tough spot, they call in Chuck Norris. And when Chuck Norris hits troubled times, Steve Hunt is the only man for the job.
I couldn't have said it better myself (even though I just did... oof!)
As many of you know, the race to fill Ken Cuccinelli's soon-to-be-vacated Virginia Senate seat is coming to a close in tomorrow's primary election. For those of you who live in the area, here's yet another reason why Steve Hunt deserves your support:
Dear Friend,
As you know, the Republican primary to determine a nominee to replace Senator Ken Cuccinelli will be held tomorrow night from at Centreville High School from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. I would be grateful to have your support and your vote.
I have worked with many of you in the past on political, community, and charitable causes. Some of you supported me with your time and hard earned dollars in my runs for the School Board. I have knocked doors, distributed yard signs, and worked the polls on Election Day with many of you in the past. Some of you are volunteering for my campaign right now--I cannot express to you enough my appreciation for that.
Many of you know my principles and where I stand on the issues, but I want to pledge several things to you:
1. If nominated, I will work as hard as I as you have seen me work in the past when I ran county-wide--when I earned the reputation of being everywhere. I will do everything I can to keep this Senate seat in Republican hands.
2. If elected to the State Senate, I will work as hard as I did on the school board--where even a Democrat school board member referred to me as the hardest working member of the board--to represent you, your family, our community, and our Constitution. When voting, I will consider the merits of every piece of legislation that comes before the Senate deliberately, but I can promise you, I will never forget my core values and our nation's founding principles.
Steve continues with details, which I will be glad to share beyond the fold. Continue Reading »
Finally made it to a Fairfax County Republican Committee meeting again. Hopefully this makes me a Republican in Good Standing(tm) again!
Got plenty to say about the three candidates running for Steve Cuccinelli's Virginia Senate seat, and a nice campaign speech to share with you, but I think I'm gonna put that off until tomorrow.
Until then, I will simply tease with a completely random shot from the night, that has no significance whatsoooooever, as far as you know.
;)
